Covid19 and KOM Events

sent by KOM Events on 30/04/2020 at 19:47
Dear athletes,

After careful deliberation we have taken the decision NOT to attempt to run any of our events at all this year.

We gave ourselves until the end of April to watch how things progressed nationally and internationally before announcing rescheduled dates for King Of The Mountains, Tour of the Highlands and SwimRun... but let’s be brutal… even if restrictions are lifted by Autumn none of us will have done sufficient training to make any rescheduled endurance events enjoyable later this year.

Hopefully restrictions will be eased over the next few months but as we are unlikely to return to anywhere near normal anytime soon I feel it would be foolish to attempt to organise mass participation events until we have a much clearer idea what life will be like. Whilst we would love to help the struggling tourism industry we do not want to put anyone at unnecessary risk, nor do we want to put a strain on our infrastructure.

So what does that mean for your 2020 entries?

We would love to be able to give all of you a full refund, but as a small operation with many ongoing annual expenses incurred for our events we are not in the financial situation to do that. What we could offer you as a partial refund, whilst still being able to continue organising unique and bespoke events for you in future years, is insulting. So we are asking that you accept the opportunity to defer your entries to any of our events in either 2021 or 2022. We want to make our return in 2021 to be as big as possible, so we will also be offering each of you a 50% Bring A Pair of Pals discount for 2021 events when they go live. The discount code will be unique to you and be suitable for two entrants.

Once we have sorted out all the dates for 2021 we will automatically defer all entries. It will take time to confirm new dates (hopefully exactly same weekends as this year) because staff at the various event venues are currently furloughed.

If you need to reply to this email please be aware that it will probably take several weeks to be answered as neither of us have any childcare right now.

Stay safe, but enjoy your solo rides.

Covid 19 and 3 Pistes

sent by KOM Events on 20/03/2020 at 11:01

Thank you for being patient and giving me time to enjoy with my family and our new addition (Tabitha arrived safe and well on Friday the 13th!) before facing these difficult decisions. This is a difficult time for everybody and your understanding and kind words mean a huge amount to the KOM Events Team.

In light of current developments, we have taken the difficult decision to postpone the 2020 Tour of the Highlands, 3 Pistes and King of the Mountains.

The health, safety and well-being of everyone at our events is our priority. Our decisions have been based on instruction from the government, public bodies, sports governing bodies, and the views of the communities in which we operate. Our priority is to minimise disruption and do everything we practically can to support and protect our athletes, staff, volunteers, our local hosts, spectators and suppliers.

British Cycling, and other UK sports governing bodies have suspended all organised events until at least the 30th April. Although TOTH and KOM weekends are after this date we suspect that the situation will not have improved significantly by May and as such it would be prudent to reschedule these events for later in the year.

We are aiming for weekends in September, please bear with us while we make the appropriate arrangements.  We will announce further details as soon as we can.

In the meantime Alan, lucky bugger, is self-isolating by riding 5500km across Australia. You can track his progress, or lack thereof... here; https://l.facebook.com/l.php?u=https%3A%2F%2Findianpacificwheelride2020.maprogress.com%2F%3Fn%3D34%2...

Thank you again for all your patience and understanding so far, we can’t wait to see you all back riding again soon.
