Carnmoney Hill 5k and 1 mile Fun Run

5k route

The 5k route starts with a lap around the lower pond before ascending up the hill. This is a steep climb from the offset but it will be worth it for the amazing views. The route then heads over to the remains of Dunanney Farmhouse, origins of which can be traced as far back as 1862.
Another steep climb takes runners up to a delightful wildflower meadow where they can tap into their inner child and run freely whilst absorbing superb views over Belfast and the Cavehill.
After heading back past the Farmhouse runners will hit the steepest part of the route. It will be necessary for many to walk rather than run here but again, it is well worth it for the views at the top. Loop round the pre-marked route before heading back downhill.
Extreme caution should be taken at that same steep part but the route evens out again and runners can head back towards the start and complete a final lap of the lower pond before crossing the finish line.


The route will be fully marked out at every Kilometre. There will also be marshals along the way to guide you.
There will be water at the finish line but not along the route. So feel free to take a bottle with you if you think you will need it.
Please take any empties back with you.We operate a strict leave no trace policy.
Please be aware of other people using the hill, including dog walkers.

Fun Run route
The 1 mile route will be two laps of the lower pond. It has a few 'bumps' to introduce kids and fun runners to trail running. Terrain is a mixture of gravel path and grass. Some parts are quite boggy but sure that's all part of the fun. Marshals will guide runners all the way.

First Aid
There will be various first-aiders along the route and at the finish line.

Afterwards
Collect your bespoke medal and goodie bag at the finish line. There will be hot drinks and cake at Rathfern Activity Centre. We will also have prize giving for winners.

Timing/Prizes
This will be a timed event; there will be prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd male and female and also first male and female in each age category thanks to the generous support of Decathlon UK. For the fun run we will also have a prize for 1st boy and 1st girl.

Leg-It Events cannot offer refunds except in the case where we have to cancel an event. 

We can allow name changes up until 2 days before the event. Alternatively you can carry your entry over to another event in our calendar.
