Marathon Du Malton

Bonjour and welcome to "Britain's Tastiest 10K"

Inspired by the Marathon Du Medoc in France's wine region, this gourmet food and wineathlon goes through an area of Yorkshire famous for its award-winning local produce and beautiful countryside.

Starting and finishing in Malton's pretty Market Place, there will be various food and drink stops around the beautiful 10k course. Participants are encouraged to take their time, pace themselves and enjoy the party atmosphere, food themed fancy dress (optional) and gourmet food stops.

For family members not taking part in the 10k a Street Food Sunday event will be taking place in Malton at the same time with the start/finish line right alongside the pop-up picnic area.

We now offer three types of entry:

  • The 'sans arrêt' entry is for those who are more interested in their time and do not want to visit the food and drink stations along the route
  • The 'Classique' entry is for fun runners who want to participate in the fancy dress (optional) version of the race with a selection of Artisan food and drink stops along the way
  • The 'Escargot' entry is for those who want to take a more leisurely stroll around the course and savour the Artisan food and drink stops along the way. This one is also great for families and dog walkers too
Numbers for the 'Classique' and 'Escargot' entries are strictly limited because we need to organise catering for all the food and drink stops along the course - so do not delay, book your place today!

The course is a mix of urban and rural landscapes, so may not be suitable for all. However at previous events we have had a participant in a wheelchair complete the course with the help of their friends lifting the chair over the kissing gates while they hobbled through the gates. Previously a couple completed the course with a runners buggy and several runners have been accompanied by their dogs (on leads).

This is much more than just a race, the Marathon Du Malton is an experience!

If you are in any doubt as to the amount of fun had by all taking part then just look online #marathondumalton

As per UK Athletics guidance, the 'Sans Arret' and 'Classique' are only available to those over 15 years of age. For licensing purposes only over 18’s are permitted to consume alcoholic samples.

Marathon Du Malton - Joining Instructions

sent by Visit Malton CIC on 20/10/2022 at 14:52

With the Marathon Du Malton just a few days away I am sharing with you some practical information about the running order for the day.

  • If your original ticket shows the 18th September date it will still be valid for this race
  • Registration will be open from 9am to 11.30am
  • The 'event' opens to the public at 10am with a Sunday market, including a selection of tasty street food vendors in the 'Pop-Up Picnic Area' and the York Mix Radio Roadshow will be there to keep everybody entertained
  • The 'Sans Arret' race goes off at 10.40am (note the slightly later time for this race)
  • Pre-race assembly for the 'Classique' and 'Escargot' entries will commence at 12.15pm. There will be a rousing speech and a Medoc toast followed by a formation lap of the Market Place led by a marching band. The 'Classique' fun run will then start at approximately 12.30pm followed closely by the start of the 'Escargot' walk
  • The York Mix Radio Roadshow will continue to entertain with live music slots right through the afternoon and when all the participants have returned we will have a prize giving ceremony for the best fancy dress
  • At 5pm the event will close
Following feedback from previous events we have placed the producer stops in some sort of logical meal order with savoury followed by sweet. If you have notified us of a special diet it is your own responsibility to check with the producer if their offering is suitable for your diet. Where possible an alternative sample will be offered, but this may not be possible in every case. Another thing we have added following feedback is a toilet facility at the midway point (The entrance to The Gallops).

Do not forget that the Marathon Du Malton is a cupless event. This means that although we will have water available for you to drink on the course we do not provide any cups, so please take a refillable water bottle with you. This measure helps to cut down on waste and litter.

We will have photographers out on the course once again, so don’t forget to strike a pose!

If you know anybody who might be interested in running our 10k course we will be accepting entries to the 'Sans Arret' category right up until Saturday 22nd October . The Sans Arret is more for the serious runners and, as the name suggests, it is ‘non-stop’ - meaning there are no food or drink stops in this category.

There is further information, such as parking details, in the attached ‘Joining Instructions’ PDF. I have also attached a copy of the route to put the whole thing in context for you. For those of you who have enjoyed the Marathon Du Malton previously, please note we have expanded the event and have therefore had to move the location of the start/finish line to the west side of the Market Place. The final producer stop has also moved with us to the west side of the market place.

We hope you are all set and looking forward to the Marathon Du Malton this weekend. In the meantime, if you have any questions please do email us on enquiries@visitmalton.com or What'sApp your message to 07557200526.

Kind regards

Marathon Du Malton - October Update

sent by Visit Malton CIC on 01/10/2022 at 13:16
For all runners taking part in the Marathon Du Malton on Sunday 23rd October, all the details for the original event in September will remain the same - Registration will open at 9am, the Sans Arret will set off at 10.30am, the Classique will set off at 12.30pm and the Escargot will set off at the back of the Classique at about 12.40pm. For spectators there will be a Sunday market with a street food court and the York Mix Radio Roadshow with live music will keep them entertained while you are out on the course.

All registered runners will receive an email w/c 17th October containing the 'joining instructions', which will contain all the information you need including parking arrangements.

Your ticket will automatically be valid for the new date, even if it has a September date on it. However, if you would like a new ticket issued with the 23rd October on it then just let me know and I will process that for you.

As of today (Saturday 1st October), all requested refunds and transfer credits have been processed.

A refund is usually quite quick but for some banks it can take longer for them to enter the refund on your credit card statement. If three weeks have passed since you sent your request for a refund and it is still not showing on your statement, let me know so that I can check the details for you.

If you requested a transfer credit you should have received an email from RaceSpace detailing the amount of your credit and how to use it within the next 12 months. If you have not seen your credit transfer email, please check your spam/promotions folders and if you still can't find it, let me know so that I can check the details for you.

We look forward to seeing everybody on Sunday 23rd October for what will be one of the most colourful, fun and tasty events on the racing calendar. If you can't join us this year we hope to see you again in 2023 (17tth September).

Finally I would like to say a huge thank you for the many emails I have received in support of the difficult decision to postpone this event. It has been a mammoth task in reorganising all the arrangements for this event at such short notice and I don't doubt it has caused many of you inconvenience too, for which I apologise.

Kind regards

Marathon Du Malton - New Date Confirmation

sent by Visit Malton CIC on 16/09/2022 at 08:44
Following our previous announcement last week concerning the postponement of the Marathon Du Malton we have been working hard in the background with a number of partners to enable the event to go ahead.

As you might imagine, it is not an easy task to get all the component parts of an event like this re-organised at short notice but we can now confirm that we will be hosting this event on Sunday 23rd October.

We appreciate that this new date may not be convenient for every participant, so here are the details concerning your options for a refund or a credit transfer.

1) REFUND: If you would like a refund for the face value of your ticket please email enquiries@visitmalton.com with the full details of your ticket including the email address you used to book the ticket. The refund will automatically be applied to the card that you used to originally book the ticket and can sometimes take up to 10 days to appear on your statement, depending on your bank.

2) CREDIT TRANSFER: A credit transfer includes the face value of your ticket plus your RaceSpace booking fees and any extras you have booked via RaceSpace. Credit Transfers are valid for 12 months, so can be used by another person of your choosing for the new date (23rd October) or it can be used towards a ticket for the 2023 event. If you would like a credit transfer please email enquiries@visitmalton.com with the full details of your ticket including the email address you used to book the ticket.

Once again we would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused by the postponement of the 2022 event and the uncertainty of the new date over the past seven days. If we don't see you at the Marathon Du Malton on 23rd October then we hope you will be able to join us in September 2023.

Kind regards

Postponement Notice

sent by Visit Malton CIC on 09/09/2022 at 10:52
The sad news of the passing of Queen Eiizabeth II brings the country into a period of official State Mourning. As such, as a mark of respect, we feel it is necessary to postpone the Marathon Du Malton.

At this time we do not have an alternative date in mind but we will convey our revised plans to you in the coming days. Of course, if it is not possible for you to participate on the new date, we will offer a refund or transfer credit for you to use next year.

We are sorry if this causes you any inconvenience but we hope you understand and respect the reasons for taking this difficult decision at this time.

Kind regards

Marathon Du Malton 2022 - Tickets are on sale now!

sent by Visit Malton CIC on 23/11/2021 at 09:33

We are pleased to announce that tickets for the Marathon Du Malton on Sunday 18th September 2022 are now available via this link - BOOK TICKETS

With Channel 5 featuring the event on their new series ‘Our Great Yorkshire Life’ in the new year we are expecting this event to sell out very quickly, so book your place ASAP to avoid disappointment.

We have listened very carefully to your feedback and as a result we will be introducing toilet facilities on the course next year. A lot of people have also asked us to open up the event to the whole family; British Athletics guidelines and insurance restrictions mean we are unable to offer ‘Sans Arret’ or ‘Classique’ tickets to anybody under the age of 15 but we have introduced a children’s ticket for the ‘Escargot’ (walking) category.

Our three categories are as follows:

  • The ‘Sans Arret’, is the non-stop version of the event without the food and drink stops. The ‘Sans Arret’ is the one for you if you’re looking to do a straightforward 10k race and go for your PB
  • The ‘Classique’ is very much a ‘fun run’ without a competitive edge - apart from the award for the best fancy dress of course!
  • The ‘Escargot’ is perfect if you just want to have a pleasant walk through our glorious countryside. Brilliant for the whole family and the dog!

Both the ‘Classique’ and the ‘Escargot’ will feature food and drink stations along the course provided by some of the area’s best artisan producers.

To kick things off we are offering a limited number of adult tickets for the ‘Classique’ and ‘Escargot’ categories at the ‘Early Bird’ price of £30. The ‘Sans Arret’ is available for just £25.

For more information please check out our website, where you can also view photographs of the 2021 event - https://www.visitmalton.com/marathon-du-malton

Kind regards

All runners should by now have received a notification email via RaceSpace stating the new date (23.10.22). If you have not received your email please check your spam/promotions folders and if you have still not found the email please check your account details to ensure the email address registered to yuor account is correct. The email also contains details regarding how to request a refund or a transfer credit if you can't make the new date. All tickets will be automatically valid for the new date unless you request a refund or a credt transfer

The situation has not changed yet. The event will not take place on Sunday 18th September. A new date is currently being arranged and as soon as the new date has been confirmed you will receive another direct notification. The 25th September was simply a 'holding date' to prevent the event from disappearing from Race Space - apologies for any confusion this may have caused.

Please can someone urgently clarify the situation here? We have had no notification of a new date, but it would seem the event has been moved to 25th September. Is that correct? Many thanks.
