Cannock Chase Trail Half Marathon

The Cannock Chase Half Trail Marathon. 13.1 miles of undulating trails around the area of outstanding natural beauty of Cannock Chase. In our view a true trail runners paradise! The only single lap Half Marathon on Cannock Chase. 100% fully off road, we take you along single track trails, fire roads many of which are off the normal beaten track. A true adventure!

EVENT UPDATE

Unfortunately the May date has been postponed as we are unable to gain permission for the event from the land owner (Forestry Commision) Unfortunately the Forestry have taken the decision not to allow any medium to large events to take place on their land until the beginning of September.

We've now provisionally booked September 25th as race day. This is subject to any future Covid restrictions. As always refunds are always available for you to process yourself through your Racespace account.

All current entries will be transferred to the new date.

We really hope you will join us then

Like last year, we will once again look at doing a FREE virtual Half Marathon around the May date. Look out on our Facebook page for details.

Unlike many of the events on Cannock Chase, we work really hard to design a course that really excites us. You can come along and run along the main fire roads anyway of the week. We want to take off the beaten track. This is course that will challenge all but at the same time isn’t too difficult making it suitable for new and long time runners alike.

Check out the 2019 event - https://youtu.be/xmQNcnqs9-M

This is an event for all, yet like all of our other events our main aim is bringing like-minded people together to enjoy a sport we all love… Running. If you want to take it serious then great but if like many just making it round is your challenge then fantastic! We will support you every step of the way

For the first year the entries will be limited to 600 so please enter early to avoid disappointment.

CaniX - After testing CaniX at last years event we've decided to make it a category for the 2020 event. CaniX will get a slightly earlier start so they get space to run free.

Course Profile:

The start / arena area is based at the Tackeroo Campsite in the heart of Cannock Chase. The course based on a figure of 8 which makes it ideal for spectators as from the arena they will get to see you at the start ,after 1 mile, 3miles, again after 10miles and then at the finish.

The route is on mainly rolling terrain, hard stone tracks with a few singletrack sections that add an extra bit of fun to the course. We recommend trail shoes as the surface is un-even and could be muddy in sections.

From the beginning you head out of the arena into the trees and loop around and back into the arena before heading down into the valley on a mile long singletrack fun section. From the bottom of the valley to head along a steady climb back up into the arena. At this point you’ll find the first feed point.

Now you head out in the opposite direction where the course flattens out for a few miles. You’ll zig zag through some dense wooded areas before heading back into a valley. Now you’re faced with a long steady climb back up on the top of the ridge bringing you to the half way point.

Again the course flattens out before heading into another valley and an area called Brindley Heath. A really picturesque section of the course, you run along the valley with a stream and heathland to your right and wooded area to the right.

Now your heading back toward the arena at which you come to at the 10mile point. You can pick up encouragement from spectators before heading off on a final loop around the arena that includes more fun single track.

Arrival:

Please follow the signage from Penkridge Bank to the car park area. From there you will be directed to the start / finish arena. We recommend that you arrive at this area at least 30 minutes before the start of the event. There will be a secure bag storage area for you to leave clothing / keys etc. Spend some time and warm up before the start and make sure you wear suitable clothing for winter conditions. The start area can get quite windy so a windproof jacket and full length bottoms are recommended.

Other Information:

Prize presentation will take place around 30 minutes after the 3rd place female has crossed the line. Prizes for the Team events will be posted out a few days after the event.

Full results will be available online from Monday after the event. A link to these and the photos taken on the day will be posted on the Facebook page

Race numbers will be sent out on the Monday before the event. For anybody who enters after this date then you will need to collect your number on the day from general enquiries. Please arrive with enough time (we recommend at least 1hr before your event start) to sign on. Signing on will be open at 8.30 in the morning so to give any keen runners time to get sorted well before their start time. At signing on you'll need to find your name against your correct category and sign your name. For any under 18's we will need a parent or guardian to sign for you.

Organiser Updates (2)

Event Postponed Until September (TBC)

sent by Run & Ride on 24/03/2021 at 19:34
Evening All,

So here we are again with no option but to postponed this years May event date.

At the start of the year the May date was looking really promising. Boris laid out the easing of the lockdown dates and all looked to be heading a the right direction.

Two weeks ago we started hearing rumours of a national wide policy from the Forestry Commision and that they weren't going to grant any permissions on their land for events until late summer. It didn't seem to make any sense so we sought out clarification from our local office. News was slow coming back, which didn't give us much hope. Then on Monday the Forestry cancelled all their own concerts which pretty much confirmed our worst thoughts. This was then followed up yesterday with confirmation that the policy is that no permissions will be given for events on Forestry Commision land until after the 1st September.

Unfortunately there is nothing we can do. We don't have another landowner in the area that we know of that would be open to us moving the events too. So we have no choice but to postpone the events until later in the year.

We've already been looking at dates and understand that the calendar for September / October is looking very busy. Our proposed date at the moment would be weekend 25th / 26th but we'll wait until we get confirmation back from the Forestry before confirming anything.

All current entries will be transferred to the new date.

We really hope you will join us then

Like last year, we will once again look at doing a FREE virtual Half Marathon around the May date. Look out on our Facebook page for details.

Event Postponed Until March 27th 2021

Hello all,

We're really sorry to say that we've no choice but to postpone this years event to 2021.

We're held back as long as we could but it's now clear that we're not going to out of lockdown enough for us to put on the event. It's very frustrating for us as we want to race, we want to put on events but things are out of our control.

Slightly good news is that we've set dates for the the new event which is going to be held on March 27th 2021.

All current entries will be transferred to the new date.

We really hope you will join us then

We have all the medals for the 2020 event ready to go so we'll be doing a virtual run so we can find them a home and they don't go to waste.

The cost of cancelling events is huge. Money spent out on medals, marketing and the like goes to waste. On refunds we have to pay bank fees and fees to use the site which we estimate could cost in the region of £1500 (Just the fees) We're asking where possible if people would be happy to take a credit instead of a refund. The refund option is available and the choice is yours.

Sorry to say that the event has been postponed until March 27th 2021

Please listen to the clip for details

Refund:

1. Login to your Race Space account
2. Select 'My Entries' from the main menu (on mobile you'll need to select 'Racer Dashboard', then choose 'My Entries' from the dropdown)
