Cannock Chase Trail Half Marathon

The Cannock Chase Half Trail Marathon. 13.1 miles of undulating trails around the area of outstanding natural beauty of Cannock Chase. In our view a true trail runners paradise! The only single lap Half Marathon on Cannock Chase. 100% fully off road, we take you along single track trails, fire roads many of which are off the normal beaten track. A true adventure

Unlike many of the events on Cannock Chase, we work really hard to design a course that really excites us. You can come along and run along the main fire roads anyway of the week. We want to take off the beaten track. This is course that will challenge all but at the same time isn’t too difficult making it suitable for new and long time runners alike.

This is an event for all, yet like all of our other events our main aim is bringing like-minded people together to enjoy a sport we all love… Running. If you want to take it serious then great but if like many just making it round is your challenge then fantastic! We will support you every step of the way

For the first year the entries will be limited to 500 so please enter early to avoid disappointment.

Spectating:

We understand that friends and family may wish to come along and watch you suffer. Therefore we've done our best to keep the course as close to the start / finish arena as possible. The course makes a figure of 8 shape around the arena meaning spectators don’t have to walk far to see and support you a number of times. Entry and parking is free for spectators so please invite friends and family along.

Thank You

We’ve also managed to secure some great support from our sponsors

Run & Ride

Who will be supplying prizes for the top 3 in each category and spot prizes for those that we feel have captured the true spirit of the event.

Course Profile:

One of the toughest half marathon course's in the UK!

The start / arena area is based at the Tackeroo Campsite in the heart of Cannock Chase. The course based on a figure of 8 which makes it ideal for spectators as from the arena they will get to see you at the start ,after 1 mile, 3miles, again after 10miles and then at the finish.

The route is on mainly rolling terrain, hard stone tracks with a few singletrack sections that add an extra bit of fun to the course. We recommend trail shoes as the surface is un-even and could be muddy in sections.

From the beginning you head out of the arena into the trees and loop around and back into the arena before heading down into the valley on a mile long singletrack fun section. From the bottom of the valley to head along a steady climb back up into the arena. At this point you’ll find the first feed point.

Now you head out in the opposite direction where the course flattens out for a few miles. You’ll zig zag through some dense wooded areas before heading back into a valley. Now you’re faced with a long steady climb back up on the top of the ridge bringing you to the half way point.

Again the course flattens out before heading into another valley and an area called Brindley Heath. A really picturesque section of the course, you run along the valley with a stream and heathland to your right and wooded area to the right.

Now your heading back toward the arena at which you come to at the 10mile point. You can pick up encouragement from spectators before heading off on a final loop around the arena that includes more fun single track.

Arrival:

Please follow the signage from Penkridge Bank to the car park area. From there you will be directed to the start / finish arena. We recommend that you arrive at this area at least 30 minutes before the start of the event. There will be a secure bag storage area for you to leave clothing / keys etc. Spend some time and warm up before the start and make sure you wear suitable clothing for winter conditions. The start area can get quite windy so a windproof jacket and full length bottoms are recommended.
