Venue:

Cannock Chase is a "Hot Spot" for mountain biking in the UK. A venue famous for it's Follow The Dog / Monkey Trail mountain bike routes. Multiple National MTB events as well as regular grass root level events under the "Cannock Chase Classic" title have been held at the venue over the past few years.. It's an area of outstanding natural beauty and blessed with miles and miles of tracks and trails perfect for a number of outdoor sports. The Tackeroo site which we use is ideal for MTB events. Hardstanding flat base for the arena with parking and camping within a few hundred meters from the arena. The trails are challenging without being dangerous. Technical to test the fast rider but safe enough for the beginner riding at a slower pace. This makes our courses suitable for experienced and new riders alike.

Facilites:
  • Toilets

• Camping – FREE

• Parking – Free, there’s lots of hard standing parking at the venue

• Food & Drink – we’ve managed to secure ‘real’ coffee car vendor, Per-Cup, to attend the event. For the true coffee lovers they’ll be offering proper coffee. We’ll also be offering a wide selection of home baked cakes & savoury treats

• Onsite drink water – there are a number of taps around the parking area with fresh drinking water.

• Massage Therapy will be set up early Sunday morning offering pre-race treatment and post race treatments. The effects on the legs of a good massage cannot be under estimated.

• Run & Ride Store will be offering the essentials should you forget something and dare we say something breaks. Of course all will be at a reduce “special offer” rate

Course Profile:

As for the course, expect a real mountain bike course. What do we mean by that? Well plenty of nice techy, but fast flowing single track. and some lung busting climbs mixed up with a few fire road sections. As with all our events we try to create a few new sections with the backing from the Forestry Commission ready for the event. If you are a newcomer then please don’t be put off by the “real mountain bike” talk. Our courses are 100% ride-able by all levels and we don’t put anything too dangerous in the course, plus anywhere that has a difficult section in will have a ‘easy route’ alternative. The course will be around 10km in length and take an average of 30mins (Top riders) 45mins (first timers) to complete.

How Things Work:

The event starts with a mass start. That means regardless of category or duration (3hr or 6hr) the Solo riders and 1 member of the team will all start at once. The idea is to complete as many laps as possible within the time. Only laps completed with the 3hr or 6hr mark will count so you need to time your final laps to perfection

Solos - It just you. Well you and a number of helpers no doubt. You'll start and ride as many laps as you can in the 3hrs or 6hrs. You can leave the course at the designated point at any time for supplies or a rest and then rejoin again if you wish. To register a result you must complete as least 1 lap. The winner is the person that completes as many laps as possible within the 3hrs or 6hrs.

Teams - So you're going to share the riding. 1 member of the team will start the race at the beginning. You will then hand over the baton to your team mate at the designated point (at the end of a lap) so they can continue. Only 1 member of the team can be on the course at 1 time. They can complete just 1 lap or as many as they wish before they hand over the baton to the team mate. Like the solo's the idea is to complete as many laps as possible within the 3hr or 6hr time. To register a result each team must complete at least 1 lap.

Under 14's

2 Laps of a slightly shortened version of the main course. We'll be aiming for a race time of around 45 minutes. Slightly less for the winner and a little more for those at the tail end.

Under 12's

A specific course that suits the general under 12's rider. We'll race for 20 minutes, boys and girls in the same event. If your little one is fitter and quicker than the average u12's then it may be best to give them a bigger challenge and put them into the U14's race.

Venue:

Tackeroo Camp Site
Penkridge Bank
Nr Rugeley
WS15 2UA

The venue at Tackeroo is ideal for holding events at. Easily accessible from the north or the south Tackeroo is around 15 minutes from the M6 motorway junctions at Cannock (South) or Stafford (North).

Camping:

*Camping will be available on site on the Friday and Saturday evening. No need to book just turn up. There is no charge for camping

*Please note that reserve the right to cancel the camping should we get extreme high winds

Spectating:

We understand that friends and family may wish to come along and watch you suffer. Therefore we’ve done our best to keep the course as close to the start / finish arena as possible. You’ll find that riders will enter the arena at least 2 times per lap so the spectators will never get plenty of opportunities to encourage or heckle.

Event Postponed Until September (Date TBC)

sent by Run & Ride on 24/03/2021 at 19:33
Evening All,

So here we are again with no option but to postponed this years May event date.

At the start of the year the May date was looking really promising. Boris laid out the easing of the lockdown dates and all looked to be heading a the right direction.

Two weeks ago we started hearing rumours of a national wide policy from the Forestry Commision and that they weren't going to grant any permissions on their land for events until late summer. It didn't seem to make any sense so we sought out clarification from our local office. News was slow coming back, which didn't give us much hope. Then on Monday the Forestry cancelled all their own concerts which pretty much confirmed our worst thoughts. This was then followed up yesterday with confirmation that the policy is that no permissions will be given for events on Forestry Commision land until after the 1st September.

Unfortunately there is nothing we can do. We don't have another landowner in the area that we know of that would be open to us moving the events too. So we have no choice but to postpone the events until later in the year.

We've already been looking at dates and understand that the calendar for September / October is looking very busy. Our proposed date at the moment would be weekend 25th / 26th but we'll wait until we get confirmation back from the Forestry before confirming anything.

All current entries will be transferred to the new date.

We really hope you will join us then

Event postponed until March 28th 2021

Hello all,

We're really sorry to say that we've no choice but to postpone this years event to 2021.

We're held back as long as we could but it's now clear that we're not going to out of lockdown enough for us to put on the event. It's very frustrating for us as we want to race, we want to put on events but things are out of our control.

Slightly good news is that we've set dates for the the new event which is going to be held on March 28th 2021.

All current entries will be transferred to the new date.

We really hope you will join us then

We have all the medals for the 2020 event ready to go so we'll be doing a virtual run so we can find them a home and they don't go to waste.

The cost of cancelling events is huge. Money spent out on medals, marketing and the like goes to waste. On refunds we have to pay bank fees and fees to use the site which we estimate could cost in the region of £1500 (Just the fees) We're asking where possible if people would be happy to take a credit instead of a refund. The refund option is available and the choice is yours.

Sorry to say that the event has been postponed until March 28th 2021

Please listen to the clip for details

Given the current situation a number of people are questioning if the Dirty Nocker will be going ahead or not. We are committed to the making the event happen on April 4th and as it stands are still proceeding with plans to make ready for that date. That said we are in an ever changing situation. As ever we are keen to see people out participating at our events whilst at the same time we never want to put anybody at risk. We are constantly watching as things develop. Taking information provided by the government and our land owners the Forestry Commision. We want to make double sure that any decision is the right one for our customers. Be sure that should the event not happen on April 5th then it will be rescheduled for later on in the year. Don't panic... Keep riding and be Happy :-)
