Bostin' Chase Sportive 2021

THIS EVENT IS CONFIRMED AND WILL BE OPERATED USING THE COVID-19 "ORGANISED SPORT" GUIDELINES

The Bostin’ Chase Sportive is the first of our series of cycling events for 2021.

Following the commencement of sportives, post lockdown, under the government and British Cycling's 'organised sport' provisions we have had to make some last minute changes to this event.

These changes have enabled us to run the event this year and we hope you enjoy it!

A very popular event which takes riders on a choice of three fully signposted routes along predominantly country lanes and through the wonderful scenery of Shropshire and Staffordshire with some of the routes getting to experience Cannock Chase forest and Blithfield Reservoir.

Gold route - 70 miles / 110km

Silver route - 50 miles / 80km

Bronze route - 30 miles / 50km

  • Registration opens - 8.00am
  • Start time - 8.30am - 10.00am free start

All of our Cycling routes begin and finish at Penkridge Sports & Recreation Centre in Penkridge, Staffordshire, not at Harper Adams University as before. It is a great venue with plenty of parking.

Following the covid guidelines we have redesigned the original routes so that the only location that we need to keep covid safe is the event HQ, which will be used as the feed station as well. The routes therefore consist of three different routes that all return to HQ. The Gold riders will ride all three routes, the Silver riders two routes and the Bronze riders one route.

This has meant that there is NO FEED STATION on the Bronze route, although riders are welcome to enjoy refreshment when they return to HQ at the end of that route.

All of the routes head North West, out of the village of Penkridge along country lanes towards the village of Bradley and then on to Haughton, where the routes turn South West towards Church Eaton and later Wheaton Aston. Riders will continue South towards Bishops Wood before turning East on to the picturesque village of Brewood before turning North East and onwards to the starting point, the event HQ. Here the Bronze route finishes but, after some open air refreshment the Silver and Gold riders head off from HQ again.

The Gold and Silver riders will head North East from the HQ, following the side of the canal and up towards the village of Brocton where they will eventually turn right and ride up the short but steep Brocton Bank (used by the Tour of Britain) then on to the former Royal forest of Cannock Chase, watching out for the resident deer population and other wildlife. After riding through some of the wonderful forest roads the riders down towards Hednesford and a right turn up a hill towards the famous Pye Green radio mast and back on the top of the Chase. A left turn will bring riders West and back towards the event HQ for much needed refreshment. Here the Silver riders finish their day but the Gold riders have another route to finish before they can head home.

The Gold riders leave Penkridge towards Cannock before turning South and then on to the windmill at Sharehill and the prisons of Featherstone. Then North West through Coven and on to Brewood once more where they will then head back towards Penkridge at the event HQ.

All three Bostin’ Chase routes are picturesque, challenging in parts but memorable! What better way to spend a Sunday!

BOSTIN' CHASE SPORTIVE - 25 April 2021 - CHANGE OF EVENT DETAILS

sent by Bostin' Ride on 08/04/2021 at 09:47
Dear Entrant,

At the end of last month we published, on our website and social media platforms, that following the government's relaxation of lockdown on organised sport, we were going ahead with our Bostin' Chase Sportive on Sunday 25 April 2021 but that certain elements of the event had to change for operational reasons.

We have only just realised that we have not directly communicated this fact to riders who may have entered before the 31 March, when the announcement was made and the new event details were updated on the website. We can only apologise for this oversight.

The main changes to the event, to enable us to comply with the new covid guidelines on organised sport, are as follows:
  • The event HQ will be at the Monkton Recreation Centre in Penkridge, Staffordshire, ST19 5QP instead of at Harper Adams University in Newport, Shropshire.
  • There will still be three routes, but these will now be 30 miles long (Bronze), 50 miles long (Silver) and 70 miles long (Gold).
  • The event HQ will also be used as the feed station for the event.
  • The Bronze route will not have a feed station, and it will not travel over Cannock Chase.
  • The Silver route will have one feed station, after 30 miles.
  • The Gold route will have two feed stations, after 30 miles and 50 miles.
  • People will NOT be able to go inside any building apart from to use the toilets, in a socially distanced manner.
  • There will be contactless registration on the day.
  • There will be no formal mass start.
  • Food and drink will be provided OUTSIDE, and we can only provide bottled water and pre-wrapped cakes and biscuits, in line with guidelines.
  • We shall still operate an emergency ‘return to HQ’ support service for any rider who needs assistance while at on the course – masks/face coverings must be worn throughout any journey.
We are sorry that we have had to change certain elements of the event but we really wanted to be able to put on a sportive for you and under the guidelines issued by the government and British Cycling the above is the only way that it is possible.

If anyone, in light of the changes, wants to transfer their entry to a different event or change the route (length of ride) that they entered this can easily be done, for free, online through your Race Space account. Details can be found below.

Transfer to a different event:

Change route (length of ride):
To transfer your booking to a different route at the same event – follow the link above to 'Transfer to a different event' and when you have obtained your Transfer Credit then re-book yourself onto the same event, but different route, using the Transfer Credit to pay the entry fee.

Following the closure of the online booking system, on 21 April, we shall be emailing all entrants with our usual Event Information Pack, GPX files, etc. updated to include mandatory notices regarding covid-19 and our new procedures that we will have to follow on the day.

We look forward to seeing as many of you there as possible and, in the meantime, stay safe and happy cycling.

Best wishes
