Thank you
Excited Much??
EXCITED MUCH??
Final instructions for the Hazelbank 5 mile run and 1 mile fun run on Sunday 23rd December.
The event has SOLD OUT, thank you for your support. This has enabled us to put up prize money for winners, buy gifts for all the volunteers and purchase lots of added extras such as a chocolate fountain and mulled wine for the event J
Please pick up your race number from 9.30am and before 10.45am please.
Weather
Weather is looking good -Perhaps a chance of light rain and hardly any wind but as always, keep an eye on the weather forecast and dress appropriately.
Getting there:
Registration is at the bowling club, to the left as you enter the park.
The address is:
Hazelbank Park, Shore Road, BT37 9JQ.
Carpark entrance is at roundabout where Shore Road and M5 Meet.
Parking:
It is recommended you get there early to secure a parking space onsite, otherwise you will need to park on the street and make your way to Hazelbank Park on foot. If this is the case you will be crossing a very busy road so please do so with caution. Please car share where possible.
Start Times:
The 5 mile run starts at 11am. The 1 mile run starts at approximately 11.05 (or once the main runners are out of the way).
Attire:
Festive attire or Christmassy colours are encouraged.
If you have ordered a Santa suit or any merchandise you can collect your items when picking up your race number. We have some additional Santa suits for sale on the day for £3 (please try to have correct change, thanks).
5 Mile Route:
The 5 mile route starts with a lap around Hazelbank Park before descent down to the Shore path. It will then head out to Loughshore Park, and back again. This is a flat route with one hill linking the upper park to the shore path. The route incorporates some beautiful views across Belfast Lough.
The route will be fully marked out at every mile. There will also be marshals along the way to guide you. We will have some arrows sprayed on the ground, these will be removed after the event.
Please be aware of other people using the park and path. The route will be on tarmacked paths all the way. It crosses the entrance to Loughshore Park so care should be taken in case any cars are trying to enter/ exit as you cross this small road. A marshal will be in place here to help control the traffic.
Water:
There will be water at the finish line but not along the route. So feel free to take a bottle with you if you think you will need it.
Please take any empties back with you.
1 Mile Run:
The 1 mile run is 2 laps of Hazelbank Park, runners do not drop down to the Shore path. The fun run is not timed but we do like to encourage and reward those speedy little boys and girls who come in 1st, 2nd and 3rd and so have a mini trophy for each. However it really is all about having some fun, staying active as a family and collecting candy canes along the way.
First Aid
There will be first-aiders along the route and at the finish line.
Afterwards
All finishers get a Santa medal. The fun run medals are slightly different than the main run medals (only because our supplier had sold out) but are more or less the same size and weight. There will be mince pies and lots of other goodies at the bowling club for everyone.
Timing/Prizes
This will be a manually timed event; there will be prizes (trophies and cash prizes) for 1st, 2nd and 3rd male and female and also mini trophies for 1st, 2nd and 3rd boy and girl in the 1 mile run.
Sort – of – Secret - Santa
Because Christmas is all about GIVING. We want to incorporate this theme into our event :-)
When picking up your race number you will also see the race number of ONE other person hand written on the back of your printed number. This is the person for whom you will be a (sort-of-secret) Santa. You should find this person either before (during?) or after the race and give them ONE thing.
Some suggestions which cost nothing are:
• A compliment
• Encouragement
• A Smile
• A kiss under the mistletoe ??
• A mince pie
• A glass of our mulled wine (albeit in a polystyrene cup)
Capture it on camera if you can :)
