Hazelbank 5 Mile Christmas Run & 1 Mile Funrun

£14 Main Run (affiliated)
£16 Main run (unaffiliated)

£5 Fun Run

Join us for our festive 5 mile run and/or bring the kids for the 1 mile Fun Run.
Festive attire is encouraged, Santa Suits, Christmas Jumpers, Elf costumes.. what ever you want. Santa Suits can be purchased online when checking out (limited availability)

All finishers get a Santa medal.

The Hazelbank Christmas 5 mile Run and 1Mile Fun Run will take place at Hazelbank Park on Saturday 21st December 2019.
Online Registrations available here:
https://www.racespace.com/legitevents/hazelbank-5-mile-christmas-run-1-mile-funrun-2

We will have the candy cane trail for the 1 mile run and both events will finish with a cosy Christmas party in the bowling club. Mince pies and Christmas punch will be among the many treats.

In addition - because Christmas is all about GIVING. We want to incorporate this theme into our event :-)
When picking up your race number on the 21st December you will also see the race number of ONE other person hand written on the back of your printed number. This is the person for whom you will be a (sort-of-secret) Santa. You should find this person either before (during?) or after the race and give them ONE thing.
Some suggestions which cost nothing are:
• A compliment
• Encouragement
• A Smile
• A kiss under the mistletoe ??
• A mince pie
• A glass of our mulled wine (albeit in a polystyrene cup)

Capture it on camera if you can :)

Let’s GIVE it stacks this Christmas.

Event details below please contact us if you have any other queries.

Race Packs
No packs will be sent out before the event. Race numbers etc. can be collected on the day from 9.15am

Start Times
The 1mile run will start at 11.05am
The 5mile run will start at 11am

On-the-day Registrations
On-the-day registrations will be available if we have not sold out. However we recommend online registration as the event sold out last year and we actually had to turn people away on the day as we hadn't enough medals.
Numbers are capped at 250

Getting there:
Registration is at the bowling club, to the left as you enter the park.
The address is:
Hazelbank Park, Shore Road, BT37 9JQ.

There will be some car parking available at the park, additional cars will need to park on nearby streets, please car share where possible.

5 Mile route
The 5 mile route starts with a lap around the park before descent down to the shore path. It will then head out to Jordanstown Park, and back again. This is a flat route with one hill linking the upper park to the shore path. The route incorporates some beautiful views across Belfast Lough.

The route will be fully marked out at every mile. There will also be marshals along the way to guide you.
There will be water at the finish line but not along the route. So feel free to take a bottle with you if you think you will need it.
Please take any empties back with you.
Please be aware of other people using the park and path. The route will be on tarmacked paths all the way. It crosses the entrance to Jordanstown Park and so care should be taken in case any cars are trying to enter/ exit as you cross this small road. A marshal will be in place here to help control the traffic.

1 mile fun run route
The 1 mile route will be two laps of the Hazelbank Park. It is flat route on tarmacked paths. Marshals will guide runners all the way.

First Aid
There will be first-aiders along the route and at the finish line.

Afterwards
Collect your Christmas medal at the finish line. There will be refreshments at the bowling club for everyone. We will also hold a prize giving ceremony for winners.

Timing/Prizes

Hazelbank Race Report

sent by Leg-It Events NI on 22/12/2019 at 18:14

Wow, what a day yesterday was!
The weather was very kind to all the runners, despite being a bit chilly we were lucky to escape any rain and wind. The marshals might not agree that it was a ‘great day for it’ bless them all – standing around for hours at this time of year takes its toll on the extremities for sure.
226 runners graced the start line for the 5 -mile run, many sporting the most amazing array of Christmas colours and festive outfits. What a joy to watch everyone get so into the spirit of things, it was such a great atmosphere.
Brendan McIhernon (Dub Runners Belfast) came home in 1st place for the second time following our Halloween event – ‘Running Scared’ which was held at the same venue. He crossed the line in a time of 29.12 Well done Brendan!
Next to finish was Sean McCallum who finished in 29.35 and was followed by Andrew Neill who finished in 3rd place in a time of 31.18.
For the ladies Ita Monaghan came home first in an impressive time of 33.47 Excellent running, well done Ita! Second for the ladies was Fiona McFall (Jog Lisburn) who crossed the line in 34.20. Completing the podium spots for the ladies was Kerry McLeod who finished in 34.37.
Well done to all our podium finishers and of course to each and every person who crossed that finish line.
For the semi-serious (or fun) run 😉, it was unclear whether sporty genetics or sibling rivalry was responsible for the podium family finishes.
70 runners lined up for the 1-mile run. Dallen Bell crossed the line first. Excellent running Dallen!
Regular Leg-It podium duo - Ryan O’Neill and younger brother Sean O’Neill finished in 2nd and 3rd place retrospectively.
For the girls it was an impressive result for the Chestnut family with older sister Jill Chestnut finishing in 1st place, middle sister Hannah in 2nd place and youngest sister Mollie in 3rd! What are Mr and Mrs Chestnut feeding those children?? Whoever says chestnuts will be making a very daft joke 😉
How lovely to see so many families get involved in the 1-mile run. Buggie runners, toddler runners, doggie runners, mummy and daddy runners, all runners!
This year the costumes really were the best we have ever seen, so great job everyone for making the effort, particularly those who got a spot prize.
Thanks again to those who brought a donation for the food bank, we ended up with 5 boxes of food which has now all been dropped off and the volunteers at the food bank are very grateful. They will add the items to food hampers which are being delivered to people who are struggling, in time for Christmas.
You can find photos from the event on our main Leg-It Events Page in the following album: https://www.facebook.com/pg/legiteventsni/photos/?tab=album&album_id=1051403758535069

We will be adding lots of photos to this album over the next day or two.

Provisional results were posted to the event Facebook Page yesterday, click here to view:

If you enjoyed the event today we would be very grateful if you could leave us a nice wee review by clicking here: https://www.facebook.com/pg/legiteventsni/reviews/?ref=page_internal
Huge thank you to the team today. To all the marshals, route managers and timers - Suzie, Laura, Owen, Michael, Bernie, Mags, Stephen, Julie, Pauline, Robert, Roisin, Wendy, Robin, Mervyn, Catherine, Galina, Zoe, Karen, Clodagh, Angela, Thomas, Lillian and Paula. Thanks also to Valley Leisure Centre manager - Declan for allowing us to do registrations in the foyer, to Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Park Warden – George, and to our lifesaver Ian and Mallusk Harriers for letting us borrow the gazebo. No doubt there are loads of other people deserving thanks who got dragged into help with giving out water and medals etc at the last minute. It’s greatly appreciated.

Finally, thanks once again to all of you for coming along and supporting this wee event which is growing year after year.

Merry Christmas and remember…
If you don’t like it… leg it 😉

6 More Sleeps! Hazelbank Final Instructions.

sent by Leg-It Events NI on 15/12/2019 at 20:12
Hi everyone,

Just 6 more sleeps until our Annual Christmas 5 mile run and 1 mile fun run.
Please read final instructions below carefully.

The event is now sold out, and we can no longer make any name changes.

Number/Santa Suit collection
You can pick up race numbers and pre-ordered Santa suits on the day of the event from 9.15am.
Alternatively if you would rather avoid the queue (we anticipate it being very busy) then you can collect numbers and suits in the foyer of the Valley Leisure Centre - 67 Church Road, Newtownabbey, BT36 7LS - on Friday 20th December from 4-7pm.
Please note we will only be there between these hours and leisure centre staff will not be involved in helping us with this in any way other than allowing us to use the foyer, so no use asking them about numbers or anything else.

Start Times
The 5mile run will start at 11am
The 1mile run will start once the 5 mile runners are out of the way so approximately 11.10am

Volunteers
If you have any family/friends coming along to support you maybe they would consider volunteering as we could always do with more help. We will have a Christmas gift for all our volunteers.

Getting there:
Registration is at the bowling club, to the left as you enter the park.
The address is:
Hazelbank Park, Shore Road, BT37 9JQ.

Parking
Whilst there is a large car park on site you will need to get there early to ensure a space. Any additional cars will need to park on nearby streets. Please be careful if you need to park on the street and walk to the entrance of Hazelbank as you will need to cross a very busy road. We encourage everyone to car share where possible.

Toilets
Public toilets are onsite

Afterwards
Collect your Christmas medal at the finish line along with water and your Christmas snack bag. We usually have food laid out in the large hall of the bowling pavilion but this year we only have access to the small room at the back of the pavilion. So instead we will make up snack bags for everyone and have a few gazebos for tea/coffee/mingling.

Timing/Prizes
This will be a timed event; there will be prizes - trophies and gifts for 1st, 2nd and 3rd male and female and also mini trophies for 1st, 2nd and 3rd boy and girl in the 1 mile run.
We will also have spot prizes for best costumes.

Results
Please be patient after the event before messaging to ask about results. We do this as quickly as possible and will post in the event on our Facebook page in the first instance. We will also forward to Athletics Norther Ireland for publication although it will probably be Monday morning before they update their results page.

Images
Photos from the event will be posted to the relevant album on our main Facebook page (not in the FB event). We look forward to selecting new cover model/s each year.

#Community Matters
Further to feedback from our runners on the Secret Santa idea which we have tried a few times - this year we will instead encourage everyone to bring one food item for the local food bank. Obviously there is no pressure to do this and no one will be checking whether you do or not but it would be great to get a few hampers put together for those in need this year. We will also be buying extra food to donate.
