Pivot TwentyFour12

Twentyfour12 is an endurance Mountain Bike Race around a course of approximately 14km, entirely off road, with a family friendly festival vibe.

Whilst the main part of the event is the 24 / 12hr event we also have so much more happening such as the 10km Run on Thursday evening. On Friday we have an Enduro MTB event using famed sections of the old World Cup course such as the "Pipeline". Over Friday and Saturday we hold a 3 stage Kids event supported by Islabikes. On top of all that we've got bike demos, live music, trade stands, FREE Camping and much much more.

Pivot TwentyFour12 Event 28th / 29th July

As the name suggests there are multiple races taking place at the same time on the same course a 24hour race, a 12hour one starting at midday and another 12 hour one at Midnight- the Torchbearer12. The venue offers space and facilities for camping (FREE by the way), all on site. The venue is perhaps England's finest with beautiful scenery, a flat arena/camping area complimented by a course that has been host to five rounds of the Cross Country World Cup in the 1990s and continues to have a superb reputation for variety and fun riding and is able to withstand some horrible weather and still be rideable.

So which race do you choose? - Well ask a few questions of yourself first

Have you raced your Mountain Bike off road before? Do you have people who will be able to keep you and your bike moving? Do you have high quality lights with a long 'burn time' (how long they will last before needed recharging). Can you perform well with little or no sleep? What preparation will you do? Will it freak you out being alone in the dark woods at night...

There are lots of other questions but this event is meant to be endurable and enjoyable so if you have lots of No answers to those questions then you should really be thinking about getting some like minded souls together to form a team or a pair, this will make the weekend more sociable and will aid your ability to proove that you spent the weekend taking part in a 24 hour mountain bike race when you go back to work on the Monday.

12 hour options

Solo
Yes that's right just you and your bike doing as many laps as you can in the time allowed. There are two solo categories under 40 and over 40.

Pairs
2 of you means someone to hand over when you're tired, wet, injured or you just fancy a brew, men, women and mixed pair categories available.

Teams of 4
4 of you spread the load, which means strategy and planning or just arriving at transition to find noone there and shouting very loudly until your cries are heard. Also means that not everyone needs amazing lights with plenty of opportunity to recharge both yours and the lights battery.

Riding the 12 hour event means you get to finish at midnight sit round the barbie, crack open some beers and heckle the brave souls who are carrying on for the full 24.

Torchbearer12This race offers solos only at a crazy time and alot more darkness to contend with. There will be a separated start area to spread out the Torchbearer riders before joining the main course.

The Torchbearer12 starts at Midnight and finishes at Midday on Sunday

24 Hour options

Solo
Keith Bontrager says you don't race for 24 hours solo, you just exist. Well that may be true but there are some mad people out there who do it regularly and can perform well without any sleep, these people usually have a dedicated team of helpers keeping them fed, watered and working (often affectionately known as pit bitches). These people should be marvelled at and celebrated (riders and bitches). This category is limited to 120 riders.

Pairs
Same as 12 hour pairs...except twice as long. In many riders opinion 24 hour pairs is harder than 24 hour solo for deep psychological reasons...find out if you agree. This category also sells out...we have no idea why it is popular...prizes will be awarded for top 3 in each category.

Open Teams
4 or 5 riders in a relay format, you can choose who goes when and whether they ride 1,2 or 3 laps at a time (this means less changing over and less time wasted in the relay transition), this also means that you just be able to get some sleep but make sure you have a good alarm clock for that 4am changeover. For 2018 there are male, female and mixed categories plus sub categories of veteran and grand veteran in he male category.

Veteran Male Teams (combined age 170+ for 4 riders and 210+ for 5 riders), Grand Veteran (combined age 210+ for 4 riders and 260+ for 5 riders)

Just for Fun
That's right lots of fun, up to 8 riders means that you will spend the majority of the time drinking coffee, looking at the trade stands, watching the entertainment, eating pizza, drinking coffee and sleeping, with just the occasional inconvenience of actually riding your bike for the odd lap. Also means you won't have to invest in a very expensive set of lights to take part. There are no prizes in "Just for fun" but the top 3 teams do get to stand on the podium.

Kids Races 27th / 28th July

One of the highlights of the event weekend has always been the kid's races - with over 100 children taking part in 2017. With the timing of the school holidays being a little more friendly in 2018 we have now grown the concept to a 2 day, 3 stage event with the support of Islabikes.

Friday July 27th will feature 2 stages - A 2km Time Trial and a Dirt Crit with the final stage being the traditional 12 and 24 minute races on Saturday morning. Categories are spilt down into age groups and based on the child age on the day of the event:

Wolverines - U16's

Sabres - U12's

Storms - U10's

Rogues - U8's

Entrants into the Islabikes Junior Stage Race are automatically entered into their appropriate 12/24 minute race on Saturday Morning.

If the stage race is not for you but you still want to enter the 12 or 24 minute race then entries are available on the day. Please remember entries are limited therefore if places fill up for the 3 stage than places may not be available on the day.

Thanks to Islabikes for their support in making this happen and they will be bringing their full demo fleet along too.

Mountain Bike Enduro 27th

Back in the day Newnham Park was regarded as one of the best XC World Cup courses in the world. What made it special was it's "Gnarly" (yes they used that word back then) downhills which made the venue famous. Sections like the "Pipeline" and "Cottage Return" used to put the fear of god into the best riders in the world. 2018 is 25years since the venue held it's 1st ever world cup and we thought it would be great to bring some of these sections back. Not they are too risky to be riding in the middle of the night 12 hours into an Endurance event so what could we do... Well the answer is to put on an Enduro during the Friday before the event where riders can have some fun riding the sections without tiring themselves out before the main event.

6 short stages taking in some of the old favourites and a few new ones that will challenge any rider. The rider with the quickest times overall for all 6 stages is the winner... Simple but loads and loads of Fun!

Limited to 50 riders so don't sleep on getting your entry in!

Jail Ale Ride - Dartmoor Brewery

Just 30 lucky riders will get to join us on an off-road ride top to sponsors Dartmoor Brewery. On arrival they'll get a full tour of the Brewery, a taster of their finest and snacks before heading back. All proceeds will be donated to a charity chosen by the Brewery.

Over 18's only

10km Evening Adventure Trail Run - Thursday 26th 7pm

It's not all about the bike! Lets kick off the weekend with a 10km adventure trail run around the beautiful surroundings of Newnham Park. Steep climbs and tricky fast downhills... we've set a course that we test any runner whilst at the same time will be one of the most fun runs you've ever done making it suitable for all.

Newnham has got so much to offer for a trail running lover. It's got lots of hills (up and down), hard stone tracks, muddy single track sections, water holes... the course we put together includes bits of everything whilst also taking runners off the beaten track.

Don't expect any walls to climb over or barbed wire to go under. No boring grass farmers fields…. This is a "Trail Run" we use one of the best and most beautiful areas in the country filled with fantastic natural trails that make the area such a destination site.

The course / route is a tough one but that doesn’t mean it’s not suitable for everybody. We don’t time cut offs or anything like that. Some runners will choose to blast round whilst others will run / walk the route and just enjoy being outdoor enjoying the experience

- Medal and goodie bag for all finishers
- Event is open to 16years +
