Marathon Du Malton

Bonjour and welcome to "Britain's Tastiest 10K"

Inspired by the Marathon Du Medoc in France's wine region, this gourmet food and wineathlon goes through an area of Yorkshire famous for its award-winning local produce and beautiful countryside.

Starting and finishing in Malton's pretty Market Place, there will be various food and drink stops around the beautiful 10k course. Participants are encouraged to take their time, pace themselves and enjoy the party atmosphere, food themed fancy dress (optional) and gourmet food stops.

For family members not taking part in the 10k a Street Food Sunday event will be taking place in Malton at the same time with the start/finish line right alongside the pop-up picnic area.

We now offer three types of entry:

  • The 'Élite' entry is for those who are more interested in their time and do not want to visit the food and drink stations along the route
  • The 'Classique' entry is for fun runners who want to participate in the fancy dress (optional) version of the race with a selection of Artisan food and drink stops along the way
  • The 'Escargot' entry is for those who want to take a more leisurely stroll around the course and savour the Artisan food and drink stops along the way
Numbers for the 'Classique' and 'Escargot' entries are strictly limited because we need to organise catering for all the food and drink stops along the course - so do not delay, book your place today!

The course is a mix of urban and rural landscapes, so may not be suitable for all. However at both of the previous events a participant in a wheelchair has completed the course with the help of their friends lifting the chair over the kissing gates while they hobbled through the gates. Previously a couple completed the course with a runners buggy and several runners have been accompanied by their dogs (on leads).

This is much more than just a race, the Marathon Du Malton is an experience!

If you are in any doubt as to the amount of fun had by all taking part then just look online #marathondumalton

Marathon Du Malton - Refunds procedure

sent by Mark Brayshaw on 05/08/2020 at 14:38
Further to the notification issued last week I just wanted to clarify the procedure if you would like to request a refund.

Please email [email protected] with your booking details and I will begin the process to issue the refund back to the card that was used when you first booked your ticket.

Before the refund is processed I first need to transfer the funds to our RaceSpace account. To reduce fees and administration time I propose to do this transfer in batches at the end of the month - so I would ask that you send me your refund request by Monday 24th August. Any requests received after this date will be processed at the end of September.

For those of you who are happy to roll your tickets over to next year I can confirm that your ticket has been amended to show the 2021 dates. We will re-issue these tickets next year but you can view them anytime by logging in to your Racespace account.

Thank you for all your kind messages of support, we hope you stay safe and we look forward to welcoming you back to the Marathon Du Malton next year.

Kind regards

Mark

Marathon Du Malton 2020 - Covid 19 update (01.08.20)

sent by Mark Brayshaw on 01/08/2020 at 17:59
It is with deep regret that must finally give up any hope of running the Marathon Du Malton this year. We really had hoped that things would have settled down enough by the end of August to allow for this event to go ahead - even if it meant a few changes were needed to enable social distancing at the start and finish.

Unfortunately the relaxation of lockdown on events suffered a setback yesterday when the UK governent announced a halt to their latest relaxation plans for at least another fortnight. This further delay takes us far too close to the event and we just do not feel it is fair on particiapnts, volunteers or service providers to wait for a decision any longer. This cancellation probably comes as no great surprise but we are just as disappopinted  as you that the 2020 event will not now go ahead.

We have considered whether it is feasible to postpone the event to later in the year but there is only a limited window of opportunity before the weather would be decidely dodgy. If our event was just a race then I am sure the hardy cross country runners would find it no problem at all but as you know the Marathon Du Malton is not just a race - this is more of a fun experience where particiapants are encouraged to come in fancy dress, go slow, enjoy the views and sample the food and drink stops along the route. So for the sake of preserving the unique fun experience that we have come to love we have decided it is best to cancel the 2020 event and work on the 2021 event instead - which will be on Sunday 29th August 2021.

You are very welcome to keep hold of your ticket, in which case you will guaranteed your place at the 2020 price. But if you prefer to have a refund that is absolutely fine too - we will refund the full face value of the ticket you have purchased.

The 2021 event will go on sale as soon as all the landowner permissions are in place. As before, the number of participants will be strictly limited - so if you take a refund now but then decide to re-book at a later date we cannot guarantee there will be a place available for you and your new ticket will be at the 2021 price, which is yet to be decided..

Once again, we are very sorry to be bringing you this bad news today but we sincerely hope we will see you fit and well next year instead.

Kind regards

Mark

Marathon Du Malton 2020 - Covid 19 Update (20.07.20)

sent by Mark Brayshaw on 20/07/2020 at 15:13

Back in May we said we intended to make a go/no go decision regarding the Marathon Du Malton no later than w/c 13th July. At that time the UK government reviews were taking place every 3 weeks but the review schedule was subsequently changed to every 4 weeks meaning that the next review is due on 23/7/20.

So the change in the review schedule has set us back by about a week but we remain committed to make a dxecison on this year's event before the end of July.

As mentioned in the last notification  if social distancing is still a thing come the end of August then we can't run this event. At the moment it looks like there will be no significant changes to social distancing before November.

As per the last notificatgion, if we have to cancel the event you will be given the option to roll your entry forward to a rescheduled date - whether that be later in the year or in 2021. Or you will be entitled to a refund for the full face value of the ticket you have purchased.

Please sit tight and we will make the go/no go announcement as soon as we can before the end of next week.

Kind regards

Mark

Marathon Du Malton 2020 - Covid 19 Update (29.05.20)

sent by Mark Brayshaw on 29/05/2020 at 14:40

You might be wondering if we are still planning to hold the Marathon Du Malton this year.

Right now, the short answer is yes but it is by no means a certainty. We are keeping a very close watch on developments from the government. At the moment the future is still far from clear but we are starting to see some green shoots of recovery in other sectors such as retail and professional sports.

One thing is certain, it social distancing as we know it right now is still a thing come the end of August then clearly we can't run this event. But things change on a weekly basis and who knows, maybe in the meantime testing for immunity might become available, in which case, in theory, it might be possible to host events for people who have already been certified immune. Or maybe the event can run with some amended social distancing requirments..If you have run this course before, you will know there are sections of the course that are so narrow you would have to be in single file, so keeping 2m distance would be difficult and there are kissing gates on the course too, which would necessitate people touching the same hard surfaces in quick succession. Certainly there are a number of considerations to take into account and we will only go forward with this event if we can be sure it is safe for you and us to do so.

If we have to cancel the event you will be given the option to roll your entry forward to a rescheduled date - whether that be later in the year or in 2021. Or you will be entitled to a refund for the full face value of the ticket you have purchased.

We intend to make a go/no go decision on the Marathon Du Malton no later than w/c 13th July. So sit tight and we will make further announcements as soon as we can.

Kind regards

Mark

Marathon Du Malton 2020 - Pre-launch entries now available

sent by Mark Brayshaw on 15/02/2020 at 18:00

Bonjour!

Thank you for registering your interest in the Marathon Du Malton – Britain’s Tastiest 10k.

Apologies for the slight delay in launching but we now have the necessary permissions in place to hold the 2020 event on Sunday 30th August (Bank Holiday weekend) and we are pleased to offer you pre-launch access to book your place a week ahead of ticket sales opening to the public.

The format of the event has changed slightly for 2020. We found over the past couple of years that some people had no interest in the gourmet food and drink stops – they were only interested in running the course as fast as they could. Consequently, because we cater specifically for the numbers attending, we had a food waste issue which totally goes against our aspirations to make Malton the UK’s first market town with a Circular Economy. It was also a real shame because we usually have to operate a waiting list for the event and if we knew people did not want the food and drink we could have released more places.

This year we are offering a choice of entries:

1.     The ‘Elite’ entry – This one does not include the food and drink element and is for those who just want to run the course. The Elite run will start at 10.30am

2.     The ‘Classique’ entry – This one is exactly the same as the last two years. Entrants are encouraged to come in food themed fancy dress (but this is entirely optional) and enjoy the gourmet food and drink stops along the way. Places are limited due to catering restrictions. This wave will start at approximately 12.30pm

3.     The ‘Escargot’ entry – This one is for those who would prefer to walk or stagger their way around the course and enjoy the event (including the gourmet food and drink stops) at a much more leisurely pace. Places are limited due to catering restrictions. This wave will start at approximately 12.40pm

Places will go on general sale to the public in 7 days’ time - so to guarantee your place please book now using the following link: https://www.racespace.com/gb/mark-brayshaw/marathon-du-malton-3 (you may need to cut and paste this link into your browser if your PC takes you to one of the previous events).

Remember, due to catering restrictions, places for the ‘Classique’ and ‘Escargot’ entries are limited and booking for these two options will close earlier than the ‘Elite’ entry, which is currently unlimited.

FAQ’s:

  • Are there any changing facilities? – Yes we have very basic changing facilities at Event HQ
  • Is there a cloakroom for our bags? – Yes we have a cloakroom at Event HQ but please remember we cannot take responsibility for any valuables – these are left with your belongings entirely at your own risk
  • Can my family watch the event? – Yes, the event start and finish is in Malton’s pretty Market Place. There will be a Street Food event taking place so refreshments are readily available throughout the day and there will also be a programme of entertainment to keep people amused while you are out on the course. Lots of shops, bars, restaurants and cafes are also open during the event
  • Is it possible to watch the event out on the course? – Yes, the entire course takes place on public land but some of it goes along live roads that are under the control of traffic marshalls and therefore we do not encourage people to gather in these places. The best place to watch is in the town centre
  • Where can I park? Free parking is available at Wentworth Street Car Park (YO17 7BN) and Water Lane Car Park (YO17 7NR). Both of these car parks are approximately 5 minutes’ walk from Event HQ (YO17 7LX). Please note – Event HQ is within a pedestrianised area, so please do not attempt to drive to that postcode
  • Are there any toilets? Yes, there are public toilets including disabled facilities and baby changing facilities opposite The Shambles in the Market Place
  • Can children take part? Children under the age of 18 can take part if accompanied by an adult but they will not be permitted to sample the alcohol
  • Can I bring my dog? Malton is one of the UK’s most dog friendly towns. Well behaved dogs on leads are permitted on the course
  • Can I bring my baby buggy? We have had people run the course with a cross-country buggy. Please be aware though that there is a range of surfaces from tarmac, to grass and woodland tracks. There are also kissing gates on the course, so the buggy would have to be lifted over the gates
  • Is the course suitable for wheelchairs? Wheelchair entrants have taken part for the last two years but the entrant had to get out of the wheelchair to hobble through the kissing gates and their friends had to lift the wheelchair over the gates
  • Do you cater for special diets? Yes, wherever possible and as long as we are informed via your entry form of any special dietary requirements we do try to offer an alternative. In some cases it is not always possible to offer an alternative so it is your choice whether to take the food or drink and it is your responsibility to check that the food or drink being offered is suitable for your specific requirements
  • Are there any water points? Yes, we provide water bottle filling stations at various points along the course - but please remember this is a cupless event and we have banned single use plastics, so you must bring your own water bottle
  • What time is registration? Registration opens at 8am for the Elite race and at 10am for the Classique/Escargot entries
  • What time is the race briefing? – The Elite race briefing will take place at 10.15am and the Classique/Escargot briefing will take place at 12.15pm. These briefings will take place next to the start arch
