Marathon Du Malton

Bonjour and welcome to "Britain's Tastiest 10K"

Inspired by the Marathon Du Medoc in France's wine region, this gourmet food and wineathlon goes through an area of Yorkshire famous for its award-winning local produce and beautiful countryside.

Starting and finishing in Malton's pretty Market Place, there will be various food and drink stops around the beautiful 10k course. Participants are encouraged to take their time, pace themselves and enjoy the party atmosphere, food themed fancy dress (optional) and gourmet food stops.

For family members not taking part in the 10k a Street Food Sunday event will be taking place in Malton at the same time with the start/finish line right alongside the pop-up picnic area.

We now offer three types of entry:

  • The 'Élite' entry is for those who are more interested in their time and do not want to visit the food and drink stations along the route
  • The 'Classique' entry is for fun runners who want to participate in the fancy dress (optional) version of the race with a selection of Artisan food and drink stops along the way
  • The 'Escargot' entry is for those who want to take a more leisurely stroll around the course and savour the Artisan food and drink stops along the way
Numbers for the 'Classique' and 'Escargot' entries are strictly limited because we need to organise catering for all the food and drink stops along the course - so do not delay, book your place today!

The course is a mix of urban and rural landscapes, so may not be suitable for all. However at both of the previous events a participant in a wheelchair has completed the course with the help of their friends lifting the chair over the kissing gates while they hobbled through the gates. Previously a couple completed the course with a runners buggy and several runners have been accompanied by their dogs (on leads).

This is much more than just a race, the Marathon Du Malton is an experience!

If you are in any doubt as to the amount of fun had by all taking part then just look online #marathondumalton

As per UK Athletics guidance, the Marathon Du Malton is only available to those over 15 years of age. For licensing purposes only over 18’s are permitted to consume alcoholic samples.

Marathon Du Malton 2022 - Tickets are on sale now!

sent by Visit Malton CIC on 23/11/2021 at 09:29

We are pleased to announce that tickets for the Marathon Du Malton on Sunday 18th September 2022 are now available via this link - BOOK TICKETS

With Channel 5 featuring the event on their new series ‘Our Great Yorkshire Life’ in the new year we are expecting this event to sell out very quickly, so book your place ASAP to avoid disappointment.

We have listened very carefully to your feedback and as a result we will be introducing toilet facilities on the course next year. A lot of people have also asked us to open up the event to the whole family; British Athletics guidelines and insurance restrictions mean we are unable to offer ‘Sans Arret’ or ‘Classique’ tickets to anybody under the age of 15 but we have introduced a children’s ticket for the ‘Escargot’ (walking) category.

Our three categories are as follows:

  • The ‘Sans Arret’, is the non-stop version of the event without the food and drink stops. The ‘Sans Arret’ is the one for you if you’re looking to do a straightforward 10k race and go for your PB
  • The ‘Classique’ is very much a ‘fun run’ without a competitive edge - apart from the award for the best fancy dress of course!
  • The ‘Escargot’ is perfect if you just want to have a pleasant walk through our glorious countryside. Brilliant for the whole family and the dog!

Both the ‘Classique’ and the ‘Escargot’ will feature food and drink stations along the course provided by some of the area’s best artisan producers.

To kick things off we are offering a limited number of adult tickets for the ‘Classique’ and ‘Escargot’ categories at the ‘Early Bird’ price of £30. The ‘Sans Arret’ is available for just £25.

For more information please check out our website, where you can also view photographs of the 2021 event - https://www.visitmalton.com/marathon-du-malton

Marathon Du Malton 2021 - feedback survey

sent by Visit Malton CIC on 21/09/2021 at 20:28
Thank you for taking part in the Marathon Du Malton 2021 - we would love to hear your feedback and any constructive criticism you think may help us to improve the event for next year.

Some of the changes we made this year were a direct result of feedback received in 2019 - such as having the producer stops a little more spread out and having all the savoury stops before the sweet stops.

Splitting up the event into three categories was our attempt to widen the appeal of the event to serious runners at one end of the scale to people who just enjoy a good walk in the beautiful Yorkshire countryside at the other end. We also wanted to save on food waste, because there's no point catering for you if you just want to run the course as fast as you can without stopping at the producers along the way. This worked in part this year but we still found some runners in the Classique were just there for the run and didn't call at the producer stops - if that was you we would love to know why the Elite was not your race of choice.

Having a pre-race parade, musicians out on the course, the York Mix Radio Roadshow and live music after the racing was all new this year - what did you think?

Please copy this link in to your browser and give us your feedback  https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/MdM092021

The race times are currently being uploaded to RaceSpace. The Elite and Classique times are available now but for some reason the Escargot times are being very slow to load!!

Photographs from the event will be loaded on to the Visit Malton website over the next few days https://www.visitmalton.com/marathon-du-malton

Finally we invite you to put next year's date in your diary - The Marathon Du Malton will return on Sunday 18th September 2022. Tickets will be available soon.

Kind regards

Last minute details for tomorrow!

sent by Visit Malton CIC on 18/09/2021 at 16:05
We hope you are all set and looking forward to the Marathon Du Malton tomorrow.

Just in case you have misplaid it, I have attached another copy of the joining instructions. I have also attached a copy of the route to put the whole thing in context for you.

If you have run this race before there is one very slight change to the course where a public footpath has been diverted around the back of a barn that didn't exist when we last ran the race!

Following feedback from 2019 we have placed the producer stops in some sort of logical meal order with savoury followed by sweet. If you have notified us of a special diet it is your own responsibility to check with the producer if their offering is suitable for your diet. Where possible an alternative sample will be offered, but this is not posible in every case.

Do not forget that the Marathon Du Malton is a cupless event. This means that although we will have water available for you to drink on the course we do not provide any cups, so please take a refillable water bottle with you. This measure helps to cut down on waste and litter.

We will have photographers out on the course once again and you may even see a Channel 5 documentary film crew!

If you have any questions that are not answered in the attached documents then please email enquiries@visitmalton.com or What'sApp your message to 07557200526.

We look forward to seeing you all tomorrow!

Kind regards

Marathon Du Malton - Sunday 19th September - Running Order

sent by Visit Malton CIC on 03/09/2021 at 14:23
With the Marathon Du Malton just over two weeks away I thought I would share with you some practical information about the running order for the day.
  • Registration will open at 9am
  • The 'event' opens at 10am with a selection of tasty street food vendors in the 'Pop-Up Picnic Area' and the YorkMix Radio Roadshow to keep you entertained
  • The 'Elite' race goes off at 10.30am
  • Pre-race assembly for the 'Classique' and 'Escargot' entries will commence at 12.15pm. There will be a rousing speech and a Medoc toast followed by a formation lap of the Market Place led by a marching band. The 'Classique' fun run will then start at 12.30pm followed closely by the start of the 'Escargot' walk
  • The YorkMix Radio Roadshow will continue to entertain with live music slots right through to 5pm and when all the participants have returned we will have a prize giving ceremony for the best fancy dress
  • At 5pm the event will close
If you know anybody who might be interested in running our 10k course we will be accepting entries to the 'Elite' category right up until the 18th August. You don't need to be an elite or semi-professional runner for the 'Elite' race, it's just a French flavoured title for a race that doesn't include the food/drink stops and it's the one where runners will get a race time for their own PB record.

There is further information, such as parking details, in the attached PDF.

We look forward to seeing you soon, in the meantime, if you have any questions please do email us on enquiries@visitmalton.com

Kind regards
