The Welcome Ultra

PUNK PANTHER RACES

Started in 2017, They are a series of 6 Ultra Marathons, each race has trophies for First Male, Female and Veteran Male and Female over 50. Points given each race will count towards an annual trophy for men and women.

Punk Panther Races all start in Otley, West Yorkshire and finish in Pool-in-Wharfedale, West Yorkshire, with free return transport to the event car park. They are a minimum of 50K and are run over a variety of challenging courses in West and North Yorkshire visiting stunning scenery including Ilkley Moor, The Chevin and the many reservoirs and beauty spots the area has to offer.

THE WELCOME ULTRA

Distance: 51/63km (32/39 Miles)

Climb: 1300/1800 metres (4300/6000ft)

Car Park: Bridge End Auction Site, Otley : LS21 2AA: The start is a 10 minute walk. NOTE There is no car parking at the Start or Finish, a free lift back to the car park is available from the finish.

Registration: From 7.30am at Weston Lane Community Centre (half a mile walk from carpark, take everything with you – bag transfer to finish)

Start: 8.30am

Event Closes: 6.30pm

Maps Recommended: OS Explorer Maps 297 and 288 OR Welcome Way booklet for £7.49 including p & p covers most of the course except the last section from Surprise View to the finish. The route is substantially waymarked. The 51km course will be taped.

Basic Route Details: A Big Welcome to the Punk Panther 2018 series, our first event of the season starts off from Weston Lane Community Centre in Otley and heads up to Clifton then across to Askwith then to Denton before crossing an iron bridge over the River Wharfe to Ben Rhydding then Burley-in-Wharfedale, up onto Burley Moor over to Shipley Glen then Baildon Moor, Guiseley, Yeadon over The Chevin to Surprise View and across to Bramhope and finally down to the finish in the village of Pool-in-Wharfedale where a hot meal awaits (vegetarian and vegan option available upon request when entering) along with your well deserved Tech T-Shirt, medal and certificate. Please be aware that part of this race is over open moorland providing stunnings views and challenges as well as sometimes boggy paths!

New for 2018: The Bingley Loop. An additional 7 mile loop which takes in the extended Welcome Way, at Shipley Glen the route loops around Bingley before returning to Shipley Glen for an added challenge.

CHECKPOINTS:

Each checkpoint will have water, coke, jelly babies, peanuts, Jaffa cakes, marshmallows and flapjacks , CP5 will also have pork pies and cheese.

Checkpoint 1: Denton 10km (6 miles) 9.00am to 10.30am

Checkpoint 2: Burley 19km (11 miles) 10.00am to 12 noon

Checkpoint 3: Shipley Glen 30km (18 miles) 11am to 3.30pm

Checkpoint 4: Esholt 40km (23 miles) 12 noon to 4.30pm

Checkpoint 5: The Chevin 46km (27 miles) 12.30pm to 5.30pm

Finish: Pool-in-Wharfedale Methodist Church, Main Street, Pool-in-Wharfedale, LS21 1LH – There is NO Parking at the Finish (please ask friends and family to park sensibly in the village)

Every finisher receives a medal, A Welcome Ultra Tech T-Shirt and Certificate as well as a hot meal at the finish. Event finishing positions are in order of distance completed then time taken.

A GPX files of the exact route is available on request. The file is provisional and will be confirmed as soon as entries close.



* Punk Panther Ultra marathons will be supporting St.Gemma’s Hospice in all of our race events for 2017.

St Gemma’s Hospice, in Leeds, is the largest hospice in Yorkshire and one of the largest in England. They provide the best possible care and quality of life for local people with cancer and other life threatening illnesses.

£1.00 from every race entry will be donated to this fantastic charity.
