Marathon Du Malton

Inspired by the Marathon Du Medoc in France's wine region, this gourmet food and wineathlon goes through an area of Yorkshire famous for its award-winning local produce and beautiful countryside.

Starting and finishing in Malton's pretty Market Place, there will be various food and drink stops around the beautiful 10k course. Runners are encouraged to take their time, pace themselves and enjoy the party atmosphere, fancy dress and gourmet food stops.

For family members not taking part in the 10k the Street Food Sunday event will be taking place in Malton at the same time with the start/finish line right alongside the pop-up picnic area.

The 2018 event sold out weeks ahead of the event, so please do not delay booking your tickets. Numbers are strictly limited because we need to organise catering for all the food and drink stops along the course.

The course is a mix of urban and rural landscapes, so may not be suitable for all. However one team helped one of their members with a cast on her leg complete the course in a wheelchair by lifting the chair over the kissing gates while she hobbled through the gates. Another couple completed the course with a runners buggy and several runners were accompanied by their dogs (on leads).

Much more than a race, the Marathon Du Malton is an experience.

If you are in any doubt as to the amount of fun had by all taking part then just look online #marathondumalton

Marathon Du Malton 2022 - Tickets are on sale now!

sent by Visit Malton CIC on 23/11/2021 at 09:31

We are pleased to announce that tickets for the Marathon Du Malton on Sunday 18th September 2022 are now available via this link - BOOK TICKETS

With Channel 5 featuring the event on their new series ‘Our Great Yorkshire Life’ in the new year we are expecting this event to sell out very quickly, so book your place ASAP to avoid disappointment.

We have listened very carefully to your feedback and as a result we will be introducing toilet facilities on the course next year. A lot of people have also asked us to open up the event to the whole family; British Athletics guidelines and insurance restrictions mean we are unable to offer ‘Sans Arret’ or ‘Classique’ tickets to anybody under the age of 15 but we have introduced a children’s ticket for the ‘Escargot’ (walking) category.

Our three categories are as follows:

  • The ‘Sans Arret’, is the non-stop version of the event without the food and drink stops. The ‘Sans Arret’ is the one for you if you’re looking to do a straightforward 10k race and go for your PB
  • The ‘Classique’ is very much a ‘fun run’ without a competitive edge - apart from the award for the best fancy dress of course!
  • The ‘Escargot’ is perfect if you just want to have a pleasant walk through our glorious countryside. Brilliant for the whole family and the dog!

Both the ‘Classique’ and the ‘Escargot’ will feature food and drink stations along the course provided by some of the area’s best artisan producers.

To kick things off we are offering a limited number of adult tickets for the ‘Classique’ and ‘Escargot’ categories at the ‘Early Bird’ price of £30. The ‘Sans Arret’ is available for just £25.

For more information please check out our website, where you can also view photographs of the 2021 event - https://www.visitmalton.com/marathon-du-malton

Kind regards

Mark

Marathon Du Malton 2020 - Pre-Launch entries now open!

sent by Visit Malton CIC on 15/02/2020 at 18:01

Bonjour!

Thank you for registering your interest in the Marathon Du Malton – Britain’s Tastiest 10k.

Apologies for the slight delay in launching but we now have the necessary permissions in place to hold the 2020 event on Sunday 30th August (Bank Holiday weekend) and we are pleased to offer you pre-launch access to book your place a week ahead of ticket sales opening to the public.

The format of the event has changed slightly for 2020. We found over the past couple of years that some people had no interest in the gourmet food and drink stops – they were only interested in running the course as fast as they could. Consequently, because we cater specifically for the numbers attending, we had a food waste issue which totally goes against our aspirations to make Malton the UK’s first market town with a Circular Economy. It was also a real shame because we usually have to operate a waiting list for the event and if we knew people did not want the food and drink we could have released more places.

This year we are offering a choice of entries:

1.     The ‘Elite’ entry – This one does not include the food and drink element and is for those who just want to run the course. The Elite run will start at 10.30am

2.     The ‘Classique’ entry – This one is exactly the same as the last two years. Entrants are encouraged to come in food themed fancy dress (but this is entirely optional) and enjoy the gourmet food and drink stops along the way. Places are limited due to catering restrictions. This wave will start at approximately 12.30pm

3.     The ‘Escargot’ entry – This one is for those who would prefer to walk or stagger their way around the course and enjoy the event (including the gourmet food and drink stops) at a much more leisurely pace. Places are limited due to catering restrictions. This wave will start at approximately 12.40pm

Places will go on general sale to the public in 7 days’ time - so to guarantee your place please book now using the following link: https://www.racespace.com/gb/mark-brayshaw/marathon-du-malton-3 (you may need to cut and paste this link into your browser if your PC takes you to one of the previous events).

Remember, due to catering restrictions, places for the ‘Classique’ and ‘Escargot’ entries are limited and booking for these two options will close earlier than the ‘Elite’ entry, which is currently unlimited.

FAQ’s:

  • Are there any changing facilities? – Yes we have very basic changing facilities at Event HQ
  • Is there a cloakroom for our bags? – Yes we have a cloakroom at Event HQ but please remember we cannot take responsibility for any valuables – these are left with your belongings entirely at your own risk
  • Can my family watch the event? – Yes, the event start and finish is in Malton’s pretty Market Place. There will be a Street Food event taking place so refreshments are readily available throughout the day and there will also be a programme of entertainment to keep people amused while you are out on the course. Lots of shops, bars, restaurants and cafes are also open during the event
  • Is it possible to watch the event out on the course? – Yes, the entire course takes place on public land but some of it goes along live roads that are under the control of traffic marshalls and therefore we do not encourage people to gather in these places. The best place to watch is in the town centre
  • Where can I park? Free parking is available at Wentworth Street Car Park (YO17 7BN) and Water Lane Car Park (YO17 7NR). Both of these car parks are approximately 5 minutes’ walk from Event HQ (YO17 7LX). Please note – Event HQ is within a pedestrianised area, so please do not attempt to drive to that postcode
  • Are there any toilets? Yes, there are public toilets including disabled facilities and baby changing facilities opposite The Shambles in the Market Place
  • Can children take part? Children under the age of 18 can take part if accompanied by an adult but they will not be permitted to sample the alcohol
  • Can I bring my dog? Malton is one of the UK’s most dog friendly towns. Well behaved dogs on leads are permitted on the course
  • Can I bring my baby buggy? We have had people run the course with a cross-country buggy. Please be aware though that there is a range of surfaces from tarmac, to grass and woodland tracks. There are also kissing gates on the course, so the buggy would have to be lifted over the gates
  • Is the course suitable for wheelchairs? Wheelchair entrants have taken part for the last two years but the entrant had to get out of the wheelchair to hobble through the kissing gates and their friends had to lift the wheelchair over the gates
  • Do you cater for special diets? Yes, wherever possible and as long as we are informed via your entry form of any special dietary requirements we do try to offer an alternative. In some cases it is not always possible to offer an alternative so it is your choice whether to take the food or drink and it is your responsibility to check that the food or drink being offered is suitable for your specific requirements
  • Are there any water points? Yes, we provide water bottle filling stations at various points along the course - but please remember this is a cupless event and we have banned single use plastics, so you must bring your own water bottle
  • What time is registration? Registration opens at 8am for the Elite race and at 10am for the Classique/Escargot entries
  • What time is the race briefing? – The Elite race briefing will take place at 10.15am and the Classique/Escargot briefing will take place at 12.15pm. These briefings will take place next to the start arch

Marathon Du Malton 2019 - Results

sent by Visit Malton CIC on 26/08/2019 at 16:54
Congratulations to everyone who took part in the second Marathon Du Malton yesterday. What a difference in the weather to last year!

It was amazing to see the effort that had gone in to the food themed fancy dress costumes - it is what makes this event so colourful and unique.

We will shortly be posting a link to a questionnaire and we would be really grateful for your feedback, especially if there are things that we could improve to make your day with us even more special.

The date for the Marathon Du Malton in 2020 will be Sunday 30th August - so save the date and tell all your friends about it too.

In 30 degree heat we don't expect anybody was hoping to post a PB but for those of you interested in the times, here is a full rundown of the result.

Notice to all racers for 25th August 2019: You should have received an email on Thursday detailing car parking, registration, food allergies, etc. If you have not received that email please check your spam filter. Free car parking is available at Wentworth Street Car Park (YO17 7BQ) and Water Lane Car Park (YO17 7NR). Both of these car parks are just a five minute walk from Event HQ - which is at the old conservative club building next door to the post office on Market Place (YO17 7LX). Please do not attempt to drive to Event HQ as the town centre is subject to road closures for the event. The Marathon Du Malton is a cupless event, so please bring your own water bottle. There will be water dispensers at all the food stops and at other locations on the run. It looks like it is going to be a hot sunny day so make sure you keep well hydrated and wear sunscreen. Bring your friends and family along to cheer you past the finish line - there is a Pop-Up Picnic Area with Street Food right next to the Start/Finish line and there will also be children's inflatables available to keep them entertained while you are out on the course. If you have registered a special dietary requirement then make sure you speak to the food producers at the food stops as there is an alternative available for vegetarians, vegans, gluten free, etc. There will be a bag storage facility at Event HQ Well behaved dogs are allowed on the course but must be kept on a lead at all times. If you have any questions that are not covered here or in the email that has been sent then contact us at [email protected] or 07557200526

Hi, we have entered as a family but my two daughters cannot come due to work commitments so I have two spare places. It would be a shame to miss out if any one couldn't get a ticket. Put a message on here and I will check the site and see if we can get some more runners/ walkers! Julia
